Life Skills

Everything We Do Is A Life Skill!

When looking up the definition of life skill this is what can be found:

noun: life skill; plural noun: life skills
a skill that is necessary or desirable for full participation in everyday life.

Everything that we learn in our class is a life skill. Life skills come in the form of academics and adaptive skills. Our students learn to self-regulate, critical think, problem solve, persevere, communicate and develop social skills. They also develop their self-care skills through social stories and specialized supports that are provided in our team environment.

The PLACE 2 program provides students with a small group learning environment that can provide supports for students to develop both their academic learning and adaptive behaviours. Life skills can look differently to different families. This is why the PLACE 2 team works with families to provide the best of both worlds in an educational setting. Our goal is to provide a learning environment that will develop the life skills in our students to "fully participate in everyday life" to the best of their abilities. We look forward to discussing these unique goals with you further.

Developing life skills in our class also contribute positively towards our school community. On Fun Friday's we all do our part by doing our school jobs. Our students help to replenish and organize the photocopier room, gym storage room and art room. Students also collect and organize the recycling. In our classroom students are responsible for keeping our quiet area, side counters, and lockers clean. Students are also responsible for changing toys and books in our classroom library up once a month.
